Sawyer Visit!

Sawyer & his owners finally decided to come down to visit since they moved, and Stella finally got a chance to romp with her brother, and be a general attention monger. Both pups make the most ridiculous faces when they play.

Cricket, Professional Stocking Stuffer

I forgot these were on my little camera.  Cricket, the professional stocking stuffer and quality control inspector, at work.  BTW, there are four dogs in the house as this was going on; you'll notice that there is only one dog in all the pictures.  The second stocking from the left (striped) is hers.
Don't forget to click on the first pix to start the slideshow and enjoy!

Christmas Outtakes 2013

Dale's job is to run his camera (yes, he used his camera, the Nikon D7000) and take as many embarrassing shots as possible before ending up with a few good ones that I can actually send along to people.
Setting 4 dogs up for a Christmas card shot is always challenging, especially when one (Gem the BC) regards the camera as an evil creature bent on having her for lunch if she is within striking range; another one, Cricket, thinks I really mean it when I'm standing behind Dale yelling 'Cookies!' to get their attention; Sybil the puppy who thinks my yelling at Cricket to lay down is totally directed at her and thus she must flee before something bad happens; and then there is Hoke, who faces the camera as a condemned man faces his executioner.
These are all pretty big picture files, best viewed on a big screen.  Don't forget to click the first one to start the slideshow, and enjoy!
The obligatory big butt shot 'Moon Over My Puppies"
Followed by the amazing green footstool.  Now you see it..... you don't!
And, that is followed by the ultra rare appearance of Gem the BC - almost in the picture but poised to flee at the first sign the camera is coming for her
Would have been the perfect shot, except Sybil lay down in front of the empty Santa suit honouring Ho Dog
It's 14 degrees out.  My goal was to not have a ton of dog and people tracks in the snow in front of the poo flinger.  Also noticed the gnarly 'reindeer' shadow on the roof of the red barn.  Gem spotted the camera, thus she's removing herself from danger
Alright, let me get the heck out of the picture while all four dogs are still in it - oops, sorry there Hoke, didn't see ya behind Cricket and didn't mean to trip over you!
Sybil, when I said 'Stay HERE', that meant 'Stay HERE'.  And why the heck is Cricket facing the poo flinger anyway?  The cookies are in my pocket
Alright, now that everyone is in place and lying down nicely, I'll make my exit.  Well, guess not EVERYONE remained lying down nicely.  Where the heck did Gem disappear to again?  And does Sybil think she's one of the reindeer, only facing the wrong way?

Summer Days

So despite the fact that we are in the middle of winter, Michaela posted this lovely photo on Facebook and asked me to post it to the blog. What a lovely reminder of those summer days! And Timber is so handsome!

"You Gotta Try This!"

Tracking! Here's a link to a nice overview article in Whole Dog Journal. Rowyn and I started tracking training back in August; it is a totally different type of dog/owner activity. I'm enjoying the heck out of this, and it seems like Rowyn is too. He really seems to like this 'work'. Out on the track (scent) he is the expert and gets to lead the way. I'm just there to get him started, offer moral support and dispense treats at the appropriate times. Rowyn seems to have a real knack for this, every session he makes great progress. I'm not off the hook though. I have to watch my dog, read his body language, make sure he keeps focus and I have to learn about how scent behaves in different conditions. Or maybe I'm just all excited about this because it seems easier than learning to herd? We've found a great trainer, and it turns out she's also learned herding with... her Boxers. ??? Yeah, really. She's a member of the local herding club here.

We had a great training session this morning, and Reegan, our trainer, took a little video, so now I can share it with you. I hope this works.

Ice Dogs

Hoke chows down on a 1" chunk of ice from the water tank, while Cricket, who used to try and use a Kong toy to break the ice like she watched me do, has to resort to ice dancing.  Which, even with her 50 pounds on it, wasn't enough.  More pix on the ranch blog

Wisconsin Cody, Crazy Boy

Cody being his usual wild and crazy self in Wisconsin

My Dog's Badder Than Yours

Some of you know that I just got back from Wisconsin yesterday after 5 days there.  My mom passed away last Saturday, so we had a ton of stuff to do.  While I was gone, Sybil apparently felt the need to express how much she missed me.  The eating a hole in the couch was just one of a series of small, spiteful things she did in a 35 minute period when Dale left her in the house, but it was probably the most costly.
At least Stella can play the 'puppy card'.  3 year old Sybil cannot.  Thus, that makes her a badder dog than her little sister

Freya Herding Goats in Ramona

Hi All,

Freya has had three herding lessons.  Last week my kids (Ellen & Robert) were off from school so I took them to watch the herding.  Here are some pictures.  Don't worry, I hadn't started drinking that early in the day, the wonky ones were taken by Robert (age 7).

Quick Timber Update

Dusty got an email from Michaela up in Germany. What a pup Timber has grown into!

"just wanted to share some actual pics from Timber, Ylvie and Annie. Hope you like them!
Timber is our precious. He falls in trance when you look deep into his eyes and gently press his paws..."

Today, Correlation = Causation

Alright guys, you might be wondering what a plug and a stand mixer has to do with the Morgan River Puppy Posse.

If you look closely, there is something wrong with each picture.

The culprit?
Guilty as charged.

Sawyer discovered the fun of playing with a basketball the other day. It is a hilarious mix of chasing the ball, stopping the ball and trying to pick it up. He makes me laugh everyday.
To cool for school. Haha! This is how he would stop and look at me whenever I said his name.

Some Sawyer

We moved up to Tacoma, WA back in August. Exploring the new parks and dog parks with Sawyer has been a lot of fun. Tacoma is a very pretty city. And fairly dog friendly. So, here are a few photos from the last 2 1/2 months.

Just cleaning those molars.

Seriously, how cute is this face?
His fur is a perfect fall leaf camo!

This was a fun day. I wish I had more photos. There were 7 aussies at the park. Of course Sawyer wanted nothing to do with them because the ball was out. But the 2 behind him were having a good time trying to catch him and get the ball. If one of them did Sawyer would immediately snatch the ball out of their mouth.

New Trick

This was an easy and fun one to learn. People at the dog park are always impressed by it!
